Originally from San Carlos, California, Kerry grew up surrounded by music and dance.   Her parents exposed her to great R&B artists such as Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind and Fire, and James Brown – all of which developed Kerry’s love for soulful music and funky dance styles.  Though Kerry didn’t take any formal dance classes until college, this didn’t stop her from “getting her groove on” growing up!

Kerry also grew up very active in sports, including soccer, badminton and softball.  She went on to earn her Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology from Cal State Hayward (now known as East Bay).  She obtained a teaching credential thereafter, and has been teaching PE at Quimby Oak Middle School for over 10 years.  Teaching PE is an important part of Kerry’s life. She hopes to inspire her students to embrace fitness and make it a part of their lifestyle by being a good role model. In fact, Kerry teaches dance to her middle school students as well, and it’s one of their favorite activities.  She has even organized a lunchtime flash mob of the well known Michael Jackson Thriller routine as a Halloween surprise for the students and staff!

Kerry continued to play soccer on and off throughout her life until she tore her ACL.  Looking to stay in shape, she joined a gym and began taking fitness classes, including dance fitness and body conditioning.  Kerry loved being able to stay fit while doing something she was passionate about--dancing! After several years of being told “you should be an instructor,” she became certified in AFAA to teach group exercise.    Inspired by watching hip hop choreography and dance fitness choreography on YouTube, Kerry discovered GROOV3 and fell in love with this hot dance workout!  She also had the opportunity to take several of Ben Allen’s GROOV3 master classes and was hooked!  Kerry’s hope was that GROOV3 would come to the Bay Area so she could “dance the ish out of it” on a regular basis, and now that dream has come true.   She has recently become a GROOV3 instructor and is excited to spread the GROOV3MENT in 2 San Jose locations.  She also currently teaches Hip Hop Fitness and hopes to movin' and groovin' well into her 90’s!
