This year the NEDA's National Eating Disorders Week (Feb. 20-26, 2011) is called "It's Time to Talk about It", stressing that it’s time to talk about eating disorders. We live in a culture saturated with unrealistic body-image messages and almost all of us know somebody struggling with an eating disorder. GROOV3™ class will be a regular hour long class and a short Panel discussion will follow.
IMPORTANT STATS: 10 million women suffer, 1 million men (suffer from eating disorders).
ABOUT THE FEATURED SPEAKER: Anna Arroyo was 6 years old, her father died by suicide after struggling with depression. Her family dealt with it the best they could but never talked about it. After graduating from high school in suburban Florida, Anna attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. In her sophomore year Anna developed binge-eating disorder and depression and the illness controlled her mind and body. She struggled with seeking help fearing that what happened to her father would happen to her. Eventually she sought help and through therapy and relationships with friends she has recovered and leads a fulfilling life. Speaks has spoken at UCLA, Bretnwood School, Marbalough School, Sonoma Valley College, Alhambra school district to name a few with the organization ActiveMinds.
